In times of extreme weather, the emergency shelter systems has a cold weather strategy in place to accommodate needs beyond capacity – ensuring homeless residents will not be turned away without assistance.  Please feel free to contact the shelter at the appropriate number below. If you see someone who may be in need of shelter, residents and municipal staff may call the Street Outreach Van between 2 and 9 p.m. at 1-866-553-4053. The Street Outreach Van provides clothing, food, sleeping bags and tents to homeless people in York Region, and will refer individuals to seasonal shelters.

Residents can also contact York Regional Police, who will do a wellness check and provide referral to an emergency shelter. If the individual refuses or appears to be unwell, YRP will take them to hospital to be assessed.
